We created a plan for the next thee years and I get up and do it every single day, no matter what the external circumstances are.
I heard this said in a TV interview of a guy who is expected to become the world’s fastest triathlete. (Sorry, but I didn’t catch the name of who said this).
His words jumped out at me. In what he said is a simple plan for success in achieving a dream that anyone can follow.
Three Steps To Achieve A Dream
1. Develop a Plan
Do you want to see something happen? Do you have a dream on your heart? Then make a plan that gets you there.
This could apply to anything that we would like to do.
- Write a book
- Lose weight
- Buy a house
- Become financially independent
- Grow an organization
- Adopt a child
- Start a nonprofit
- Host a TV talk show
- Influence thousands of people
- Hold a political office
- Obtain a degree
2. Commit To The Plan No Matter What
- tired
- unmotivated
- busy
- experiencing obstacles
Or
- the weather is bad
- you have young kids
- money is tight
- people you care about don’t understand
3. Find Your “We”
The triathlete in training said…We created (a plan)
Even though it will be the athlete himself running, swimming and biking great distances every day, others are working with him to see him become successful in meeting his goals, cheering him on, encouraging him, holding him accountable.
Too often we try to go it alone and that makes sticking with it no matter what really difficult. Even sharing the goal and the plan with one other person who’s got your back may make all the difference in the world in actually accomplishing your goals.
I’ve said it before, and I will keep saying it because it needs said over and over again:
[bctt tweet=”You and I are meant to live extraordinary lives by making a positive, meaningful contribution to the world. But it doesn’t just happen. Make a plan, Commit to it over and over, and Find Your People to help you achieve your dream.” username=”viaMarbleTracy”]
Nothing worth accomplishing ever just happens.
So whatever it is that you have on your heart to do- it matters and it is worth making a plan, committing and finding your people to help you towards success.
This reminds me of the saying “Keep on, keeping on” — which is something I have to tell myself some days. Or also, “carry on” — no matter how I feel.
So when are you going to write a book Tracy?
Thanks, Julie! You’re sharp… your question at the end reflects that you probably get that the reason I wrote this post was for me! I had been doing great staying on track with my book and then classes started up again and I haven’t even hardly thought about it. I need a plan! And I need to stick with it! Thanks for asking about it …. I need that too 🙂
